As soon as in the 19th century, more precisely on May 6, 1844, began the history of the route Hamburg -Berlin (route length: 286 km). Two years later, on October 15, 1846, the first leg of the route from Berlin via Wittenberge to Boitzenburg had been inaugurated. On December 15, 1846, the train drove all the way from Berlin to Hamburg for the first time - an important day in railroad history. When the Flying Hamburger the new era of fast-track traffic began.
The front-headline of the newspaper Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger on Monday, December 18, 1932, was Berlin - Hamburg in 144 minutes. Fast-railcar is running the predicted 122 km/h.
But the Flying Hamburger could not reach the stunning maximum speed of 231 km/h of the Schienenzeppellin' on June 21. 1931 from Bergedorf, close to Hamburg, to Berlin-Spandau. Later on, due to the separation of Germany, the driving time was extended to four hours. Only on May 29, 1997, could the driving time from the twenties, of 2 hours and 15 minutes, be realized again after the ICE-route "Flying Hamburger" had been electrically modernized.

Amongst railway enthusiasts the route Münster - Osnabrück - Bremen is known as a railroad. This route has been reproduced to reflect how it was in the 1970s. The electrification of the line has just been completed and some of the stations have started using light signals. That means that you now have to understand the DB light signals as well as the old mechanical signals.
The route itself is about 160 km long and offers an attractive landscape with many towns. There are over 20 stations which ensure provide you with a variable working day. Naturally the many firms have there own sidings for delivery and collection of freight.

The LTV/Erie Mining Company was especiailly grounded to transport the extremely heavy loads for the LTV Steel Mining Corporation. The line actually exists in North Minnisota and runs from Hoyt Lakes to Taconite Harbor. The 74 mile long route winds down directly from the mines to the shores of Lake Superior.
It is amazing that these locomotives were designed and built more than 40 years ago. The long life of the EMD-F9s demonstrates the care and dedication that the company and crews invested in maintenance of these hard working trains.
