"Train C2271 is a direct service to Tanggu. This train does not stop at Tianjin Railway Station. Please choose other trains if you are bound for Tianjin."

So some station is running both direct and local trains? Do you know which trains will not call at which stops? In the event of the Beijing-Tianjin intercity trains, there are just a handful of trains that won't call at this station. This can be a big deal if, for example, you want to alight at Tianjin to go to the city centre by metro!
This is why signage is very important. If we look at this sign, passengers are simply reminded of the fact that some trains are direct trains through six very simple lines:-
· 1st line: train number (or train code, as you wish)
· 2nd line: what kind of service to where
· 3rd line: "what's up" (as in: this train won't stop at one or more stops)
· 4th line: which stations are affected
· 5th line: what do we do about this
· 6th line: which destinations are impacted
It's crucial to split lines as needed. There have been cases where, for example, signs in toilets and other places were split into different lines in the wrong places - conveying, as a result, totally different meanings than those as intended in the first place!
