高铁只要建在城区外围避免大规模拆迁就行了。再远可能就是为缩短线路。

大城市最好在市中心，如上海站，杭州站，宁波站。中小城市如果经过城市边缘，最好在5公里左右。太远了不方便。不知道为什么甬温线有些站明明经过城市边缘，站点却设在比较远的地方，如三门，临海，台州。台州站的合理位置应该在路桥，现在台州南的地方。
